The wait is over for many Americans wishing for a long lasting solution to the lines and wrinkles on their face. The FDA has finally given its approval to Restylane - the longest lasting bio-degradable, injectable dermal filler currently available. With Botox, results are not visible for several days. Collagen has to be over-injected, leaving the patient puffy in the treated areas, in anticipation of volume loss within the first few days. In contrast, patients are able to walk out of the Restylane treatment and immediately appreciate the results. The hyaluronic acid is integrated into dermal tissue, filling in wrinkles and lines, and maintains its volume by attracting water molecules. It stays in the area injected and does not travel to other areas within the body. After six months to one year, the substance is degraded completely, leaving no trace within the body.
